Pastor Steve, I was wondering if you might be able to recommend a book that deals with the life of Moses. I am not looking for a commentary, but more of character study of this great man. Books on his teaching are abundant, but I would like to study this man who is described as the "meekest on all the earth". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Dan
Dan,
Thank you for a good question. Moses is definitely worth your study. Here are several good resources
and their notes will lead you to other places.
Roger Ellsworth, MOSES (God's Man For Challenging
Times); Evangelical Press--an overview of his life
and how God interfaced with him.
James Montgomery Boice, ORDINARY MEN CALLED
BY GOD (Abraham, Moses, David); Kregel--another
overview of Moses' life along with two other Bible
heroes.
Steven Smallman, FORTY DAYS ON THE MOUNTAIN
(Meditations on Knowing God); Crossway--seeks
to show us the details of Moses' intimacy with God
Jeremiah Burroughs, MOSES' SELF-DENIAL; Soli Deo
Gloria--the classic Puritan study by a giant of the
17th century.
William M. Taylor, MOSES: THE LAW-GIVER;
Ambassador--sadly out of print but worth finding.
Taylor was a 19th century pulpit giant who
excelled at edifying biography.
Altogether, you have some excellent resources to help you in your study. Your aim is admirable in this study.
Your Book Servant,
Pastor Steve Martin
