Many churches have Sunday School classes for adults as well as children. Many denominations have prepared materials to be used in adult classes. Some of these are quite good--others are fluff or worse! Many churches use books and booklets that are available as the resource for teaching. The book written by an trustworthy author guides the teacher and keeps the class on target. Today I will suggest some materials that readily adapt themselves for Sunday School classes (or small groups).
CLASS ON THE WORD OF GOD:
Geoff Thomas, THE SURE WORD OF GOD;
Evangelical Press--a great place to begin--it
covers the major issues and applies along the
way!
John Blanchard, WHY BELIEVE THE BIBLE?;
Evangelical Press--great overview for believers
and unbelievers alike.
Brian Edwards, WHY 27 ?; Evangelical Press--fine
study of the canon of the New Testament--how
and why there are 27 books in the New
Testament.
CLASS ON THE TRIUNE GOD:
Stuart Olyott, WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES ABOUT
THE TRINITY; Evangelical Press--Olyott is the
master of making difficult things clear.
Sinclair Ferguson, A HEART FOR GOD; Banner of
Truth--a priceless book about our great God.
James White, THE FORGOTTEN TRINITY; Bethany
Fellowship--excellent study and application of
the Bible's teaching on the Trinity and why it
matters.
CLASS ON JESUS CHRIST:
Stuart Olyott, JESUS IS BOTH GOD AND MAN;
Evangelical Press--clear study of Christ's two
natures and why it matters that we "get" this.
Peter Jeffery, THE CROSS; Evangelical Press--an
excellent overview of the work of Christ.
John Blanchard, WHY THE CROSS ?; Evangelical
Press--a new booklet that succinctly explains
why Christ had to die on the cross

how to set out to build a biblical church.
Mark Dever, 9 MARKS OF A HEALTHY CHURCH;
Crossway--the fine book that started the
movement that bears the name, 9 MARKS.
CLASS ON GOD'S PROVIDENCE:
Richard Belcher, A JOURNEY IN PROVIDENCE;
Richbarry Press--teaches theology in the form
of a novel where the main character has to deal
with a problem of what the Bible teaches--in
this case, the providence of God.
Jerry Bridges, TRUSTING GOD--EVEN WHEN LIFE
HURTS; NavPress--the best book on providence
available and the first written in the 20th
century in English--first published in 1988!
Jerry Bridges, IS GOD REALLY IN CONTROL?;
NavPress--picks up some of the hard cases put
to Jerry after TRUSTING GOD was published.
CLASS ON CHURCH HISTORY:
S. M. Houghton, SKETCHES FROM CHURCH
HISTORY; Banner of Truth--the best place to
start which laymen find themselves loving to
read!
Rebecca Frawley, STUDY GUIDE FOR SKETCHES
FROM CHURCH HISTORY; Banner of Truth--
finally, a good help in teaching the book.
CLASS ON THE CHRISTAN'S HOPE--CHRIST'S RETURN:

Calvary Press--an excellent study of Revelation
