Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) was
ordained to the ministry of the
Congregational Church, at Northampton,
Massachusetts, in 1727, after an
experience of conversion. His Ministry
was blessed by a remarkable religious
revival, which led to his writing
several books on the subject minutely
analyzing the experience. Among them
was the work Distinguishing marks of a
work of the Spirit of God offered here
in abridged form and in contemporary
English. The full work is available
from the Banner of Truth Trust, 3
Murrayfield Road, Edinburgh EH12 6EL.
Unwilling to permit unconverted people
to receive Communion, Edwards was
removed from Northampton in 1749. He
then began a missionary ministry,
during which time he wrote several of
his most important works.
