This is an excellent book
that came to me at a much
needed time in my life.
Although no believer can
fully understand how God's
invisible hand moves in
mankind's motions, John
Flavel effectively expounds
on the important doctrine of
God's Providence. In typical
thorough Puritan fashion,
Flavel takes one verse -
Psalm 57:2 "God that
performeth all things for me"
and, like turning a diamond,
examines every facet of this
verse using the whole of
scripture and history.
Flavel writes in a plain
spoken style with pastoral
warmth, discussing the
evidence of Providence, and
how to meditate on it and
apply it. This book helped
give me a Biblical framework
and perspective on the events
of my life, providing comfort
in knowing all things are
working toward a purposeful
end even when I don't
understand. In an age of
theology that tends to
elevate man, this book will
remind readers that God is in
control, is above all things,
and is intimately involved in
the details of the
Christian's life through His
loving, all-wise and powerful
hand!!-
