Famed Puritan preacher Jonathan
Edwards is forever known for his
sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an
Angry God,” though that is only one of
hundreds of sermons of great merit.
Michael McMullen has compiled a
collection of twenty-two sermons
preached by Edwards that have never
before appeared in print. They are
taken from a collection of Edwards
papers held at the Beinecke Rare Book
and Manuscript Library of Yale
University and have been transcribed as
a labor of love to commemorate the
300th anniversary of Edwards’ birth.
In this collection of
sermons, as well as all of
Edwards sermons, we are
recieving a priceless
education not only in the
rich fullness of biblical
Calvinistic teaching but
also a very emlightening
view of the application of
such teaching. Edwards is a
champion in demonstrating
the edifying and informative
principles of doctrinal
application to our daily
lives, no different for ours
as it was for those in the
18th century. Anyone who
picks up this book will very
soon find out that a
faithful, honest and
disciplined study of
theology is no dry acedemic
exercise in abstract
prattle, but is instead the
very foundation of what a
great sermon is, and how it
indeed glorifies God.-
