This booklet was excerpted from Calvin's Institutes and was very popular in Geneva during Calvin's lifetime. The doctrine of the Christian life in this booklet stands in stark contrast to the version of the Christian life we hear about from many pulpits today. The true Biblical doctrine of the Christian life doesn't fit contemporary conceptions, and it would be rare to hear Calvin's teaching in modern Reformed pulpits. This book will be comforting and strengthening to all Christians who may be baffled at times by their own experience. The Biblical doctrine of self-denial, as taught by Calvin, will also be very challenging. - Bill Marshall
