Fulfilled Family
Share |

With traditional family values in decline and under assault, how can parents convey Godly principles and morals amid competing messages? In The Fulfilled Family, John MacArthur, respected Bible teacher as well as experienced father and grandfather, takes a look at strategy for families as outlined in Ephesians 5 and 6. What is MacArthur's secret to his successful family? "There's no magic. There's no formula. There's no gimmick," he says. "It's not about how many times we did something, or who was in charge of this or that, or what kind of processes or methods we used. It comes down to questions that have to start in my heart: Am I committed to obedience to the Spirit of God? Am I committed to the controlling influences of the Word of God? Am I going to live out a Christian life? Because you must first answer yes to all of those questions before you have a successful family."

There is no questioning the fact the family is under attack. With divorce rates on the rise, the deconstruction of family values, homosexuality, casual sex and a myriad of other concerns, it seems as though the family is destined to failure. Even the roles of men and women are being called into question. More than ever we need to understand what the Bible says about the family. Standing firm in this onslaught of liberal, feminist, post-modern ideas is becoming harder and harder for believers. But to help us do that, John MacArthurís latest book on the family takes us to Ephesians 5 to explore the teachings of Scripture. In the manner that has come to be expected from Dr. MacArthur, he examines verse by verse Paulís teaching about mutual submission, the wifeís role, the husbands duty, the childrenís obedience and the parentís duty of nurture and admonition. Some believe that the command for mutual submission and the husbandís leadership role in the home are mutually exclusive, thereby affirming one and rejecting the other. However, MacArthur carefully examines how these two seemingly opposing ideas actually work in concert to create a beautiful picture of loving leadership. The wifeís role of submission is one of the most disrespected, attacked and hated issues among the feminist world today. Little do they know that a proper understanding and implementation of it can lead women to a fulfilled life beyond their imagination. MacArthur helps take the guesswork out of what it means to be a submissive wife. Though men like the idea of leadership, this is the area that men fail the most Ė leadership in their homes. It is their responsibility to oversee the spiritual vitality, security, operations and emotional stability of their homes. Yet, many find it too difficult, or emotionally taxing, and therefore, leave to someone else. Childrenís duties are to obey. Simple. However, parents have a responsibility to raise them in such a way that obedience is not a burden or response to fear. Parentís highest responsibility is to be the guardian and overseer of their childrenís physical, emotional, social and most importantly, spiritual well-being. MacArthurís treatment of Paulís epistle to the Ephesians in regard to how the family should be is excellent. There is no magic formula or gimmick to a healthy family. Itís a matter of obedience to the Spirit of God, influence from the Word of God and dedication to living out the Christian life by faith in Jesus Christ. This book will help get you on the right path. Read Ďem & Reap! - Brad
