It has been said by one of our greatest twentieth century contemporary theologians (the late Professor John Murray) that, ‘Christ redeemed the whole person, and thus the consummation of redemption must involve
the redemption of the body (Rom. 8:23; cf. Eph. 1:14)’. The truth of the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth is fundamental to the message of
the Christian gospel that has been sounded out since the Day of Pentecost in the first century AD. It has been the inspiration to all who believe
it to be true and the hope of all who by faith have put their trust in God’s Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul, writing to encourage the
church in Corinth (c. AD 54) and at the beginning of his third missionary journey, knew how important the resurrection of Jesus is to the Christian message of eternal life. Wanting to cheer the church there he wrote,,
‘my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labour is not in vain’ (1 Cor. 15:58).
